Employment Physical Exams
Universal Background Screening can manage your employment physicals program and help ensure your compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Health Insurance Portability and Account-ability Act (HIPAA), and other health regulations.
Why Conduct Employment Physicals
Organizations are increasingly adding employment physical exams to their occupational health programs. Employment physicals, which must be conducted post-offer, help employers determine if their employees can perform the essential functions of the positions for which they are hired and whether reasonable accommodation may be made for qualified applicants.
An employee who is unable to perform the physical demands of his or her position may pose a risk of injury to themselves, their co-workers, and the public. Conducting employment physical exams helps to promote work-place safety by assessing whether the job will put the employee or others at risk of injury.
If an employee cannot perform the essential functions of their job duties and reasonable accommodation cannot be made, the employer can legally refuse to hire the person for that specific job. However, if a qualified applicant can perform the essential functions of another available position (with or without reasonable accommodation), that position may be offered.
Universal Background Screening recommends that you consult with your organization's employment attorney regarding the implementation of a physical exam program and the development of physical exam protocols.
Our employment physicals program can help you:
- Determine whether employees are medically and physically able to perform the required job duties of their positions.
- Establish a medical baseline for employees at their date of hire in accordance with the applicable regulatory agency.
- Perform periodic physical examinations, as required for compliance.
